The one thousand year history of cast-iron work in Yamagata has been made possible due to a special kind of sand found in local river. In Japan, teakettles made of this material are held in very high-regard. For example, Kikuchi Hojudou Inc. is a company that has been well recognized for its teakettles for over 400 years. They won an award at the 1878 world fair in the U.S., and have presented their teakettles to emperors in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras. Internationally, their name brand WAZUQU is well recognized. |
